Breaking Barriers to Biblical Understanding

Happy High Holidays from Jerusalem!

Just 200 years ago, it was illegal in the United States to teach slaves to read and write. The intention behind the law was to keep a sect of people ignorant and unable to explore anything beyond what they were told by their superiors. After all, ignorant people are easier to control.

In Israel today, the average Jew on the street learns only basic Biblical Hebrew. Enough to read the story lines of the Torah, but not enough to confidently read the Scriptures as a whole and decide what principles they believe. We as a nation are taught that we cannot understand the Bible without the help of a rabbi and years of yeshiva studies.

Whether intentional or not, I can’t help but consider the parallels in these two situations—where a minority holds the power of knowledge over the majority.

And that is why Maoz Israel is working with the Israel Bible Society to create a Hebrew Study Bible that highlights Messianic prophecies, spiritual principles and identifies where our Judeo-Christian values come from.

No longer will the rabbinical authority be able to intimidate Israelis from gleaning from our own Scriptures on our own. This Bible is well into the three-year process of this painstaking landmark work. We have raised $114,000 of the $250,000 needed to complete and publish this Bible.

Would you like to be a part of opening wide the doors of knowledge for the Jewish people to understand the Book you cherish so dearly?

In His service,
